In our life journey, we experience many ups and downs. In all our situations, God blesses us. But He always surprises us with new things. He does not change, but his ways of doing things change. We always stand in awe when He performs things in his own mysterious ways.
What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, “Look! This is something new”? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. Ecclesiastes 1:10
Here, in this verse, the son of David proclaims his observation that there is nothing new under the sun. He is bored of looking at things that repeat themselves. Even after having so much wealth and blessings, he wants something new. While it may seem that nothing new exists under the sun, the Creator of the sun and stars is always bringing forth something fresh. God answered his question by saying “I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up.”
“So then, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when people will no longer say, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,’ but they will say, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the descendants of Israel up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them.’ Then they will live in their own land.” Jeremiah 23:7, 8
When God desires to bring about something new in our lives, His priority is to bring an end to the prevailing narratives. In our lives, we blurt out many things, we complain to God. We speak lot of things, but there are some things that we repeat a lot and it becomes a saying. God always stops such sayings that neither praise God nor do any good to the people.
When God wants to do something new in our lives, He puts an end to our old testimonies and gives us new ones. How long one can keep on praising God for the deliverance He provided from the Egyptians? Hence, He wants to give new testimonies to people in which they can speak about the deliverance God provided from different nations.
“Son of man, what is this proverb you have in the land of Israel; ‘The days go by and every vision comes to nothing’? Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am going to put an end to this proverb, and they will no longer quote it in Israel.’ Ezekiel 12:21, 23
God really listens to the sayings we say out of restlessness and disappointment. He will answer every saying when He wants to do new things in our life. Every promise, every vision, every prophecy will come to its fulfilment. When His time comes, He does things swiftly. It is his promise that when He does a new thing, he will not delay his word.
See, I am doing a new thing! Now its springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:19
God promises new things but the problem is we cannot perceive it. He tells us that if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. The problem we face is we want to be in Christ but forget that we are a new creation and always turn back to old ways. He promised us a new earth and a new heaven but we cannot imagine it, hence, we feel the present earth is really what matters.
Until we forget the old, we cannot perceive the new. That is why Isaiah 43:18 says, ‘Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.’ Moses remembered how he had previously struck the rock, resulting in water gushing out. However, when God asked him to command the rock, Moses struck it again. This serves as a reminder for us to let go of the past, as God may not always provide the same solution for every recurring problem we face. He always does something new. Jacob, who received the blessed name “Israel,” struggled to let go of the past and referred to himself as the ‘servant of Esau.’. Hence, forget the past and embrace the new things that God wants us to have.
Let us make sure that we don’t follow the things of the old but hope for something new. While we hope, let’s make sure that we are ready to embrace the new things God has prepared for us. There are always some new targets to cover for those who are in the Quiver of God.
May God bless you all..
