Sleep can turn out to be a blessing or a curse. When you wake up from your sleep you may find food, water that God prepared for you or Eve, a helper. Or else when you wake you will see your downfall. Hence, one thing is sure something is bound to happen when you sleep. So, what exactly is sleep.

Sleep is a state or a condition in which your body is unaware of the surrounding environment. In simple words, when people sleep, they are unaware of what’s happening around them. Enemies can plunder your valuables. You are vulnerable when you sleep.

Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. She is not dead but asleep.”   Luke 8:52

Jesus used to heal many sicknesses and here a man comes to Jesus, to take him to his house where his ailing daughter lies. As they were going to his house, people reported that his daughter died but here Jesus states that the daughter is not dead but asleep. When Lazarus died Jesus said the same thing, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep (John 11:11)”. People symbolized death to something that cannot be reverted but God sees death as sleep, there is always a scope of waking up. If someone thinks this is the end, there’s no scope, there’s no other option other than wail and mourn. God will say “Stop wailing”, “She is not dead but asleep”.

As a Christian or as a spiritual warrior, if you have put down your weapon and armor, or say you have fallen asleep, death is at the door but God will still want you to wake up and stand against your enemy. Samson is the ideal example for this situation.

Having put him to sleep on her lap, she called a man to shave off the seven braids of his hair, and so began to subdue him. And his strength left him.      Judges 16:19

Samson a warrior who was supposed to stay awake, fell asleep at the wrong place, and at the wrong time. Everything was wrong about that sleep. When he woke up, he had to face the consequences. God left him. His strength left him. The thing to note in this passage, the enemies have not come with ropes, thongs or fabrics to bind him but with bronze shackles (Judges 16:21). Even if you are asleep, enemies are afraid of you, they will not be merciful if you are asleep but will come with all their strength. What did God do? Even before Samson prayed, God made the hair on his head grow (Judges 16:22). Yes, God wanted him to wake up from his spiritual sleep.

It’s better to stay away from sleep that will make you vulnerable. Wait, for God for he will give you a better sleep. A slumber that can rejuvenate the energy of yours.  A sleep that will show plans of God and reveal great revelations. For Psalms 127:2 says, in vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat – for He grants sleep to those he loves. Till that we should pray like the Psalmist prays in Psalms 13:3 Look on me and answer, O lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death.

Even if you are unaware of your situations and sleeping. God knows all your problems. He is totally aware of your problems for He is a God who never sleeps nor slumber. Lets wait for the sleep that God grants to those who are in the QUIVER OF GOD.
